Today, we announce the release of SmallRye Fault Tolerance 7.1.0. This release contains several improvements in the area of metrics, as well as a few bug fixes.
Previous versions of SmallRye Fault Tolerance emitted metrics about what happened during guarded executions, but there was no way to correlate the runtime behavior with the current configuration, besides hardcoding the configuratoin values.
In this release, all strategies that have a meaningful configuration also expose that configuration through metrics.
That is: bulkhead (ft.bulkhead.config.*), timeout (ft.timeout.config.*), rate limit (ft.ratelimit.config.*), circuit breaker (ft.circuitbreaker.config.*) and retry (ft.retry.config.*).
Additionally, a new general metric ft.invocations.duration is emitted for all guarded methods.
It is a histogram of execution times that spans the whole guarded execution, including all fault tolerance strategies such as fallback and retries.
This release also fixes two bugs.
Fallback metrics were not emitted correctly when fallback was configured through TypedGuard, and thread context was not propagated correctly for asynchronous bulkhead tasks that had to be queued before execution.
As usual, if you have any ideas for improvements, please file an issue!
